GDAX is owned by Coinbase. You only need one account for both.
Keep in mind that Coinbase has higher fees than GDAX, so using GDAX is generally the better option.
STEP 2: FUND YOUR ACCOUNT/PURCHASE ETHEREUM
Note: We are using ETH instead of BTC because the fees are lower and the transfer times are faster.
OPTION 1: WIRE TRANSFER (Same or Next Biz Day)
Print out the GDAX wiring instructions and go to your bank to wire transfer your funds. If you wire before 1 PM, you should get them the same day, otherwise, it will be the next business day. So go early.
Your bank may charge a $25 fee for this and GDAX charges $10 to receive.
Purchase Ethereum through GDAX once funds are available. Use a limit order vs a market order and you may pay no transaction fee. See GDAX fees page for more info.
OPTION 2: ELECTRONIC ACH FROM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT (7-10 Days)
If you don't want to pay to wire transfer, you can use an ACH payment/transfer to purchase Ethereum on Coinbase, or fund your USD balance on GDAX then purchase the Ethereum once funds are available.
With Coinbase, you'll pay a higher transaction fee but you'll be able to lock in your ETH purchase price, whereas with GDAX, you will pay lower fees but be subject to whatever the ETH price is when the funds are available.
Keep in mind, it will take about 7-10 days for your funds to clear or have your ETH become available.
If you believe IOTA will rise in the next 7-10 days, it may be worth it to pay the wire fee because having to pay more for IOTA may cost you more than the wire fee.
OPTION 3: CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD (Instant)
Another option, if you're only buying a very small amount, is to purchase ETH through a credit or debit card on Coinbase.
The transaction should be instant, however, you're limited to how much you can buy, usually only up to a few hundred dollars.
GDAX does not offer this so you will have to go through Coinbase for this method, which means higher transaction fees, PLUS your credit card may also charge you a cash advance fee.
STEP 3: TRANSFER ETH TO BINANCE
First create a Binance account.
Go to the Deposit/Withdrawal page, find ETH, then click "Deposit."
Copy the ETH Deposit Address. Triple-check it is for ETH and not another crypto.
Go back to Coinbase or GDAX and withdraw your ETH to the Binance address. Keep in mind it may take one or several hours for the ETH to show up in your Binance account.
STEP 4: BUY IOTA WITH YOUR ETH
Go to the IOTA/ETH trading page on Binance and BUY YOUR IOTA!
CONGRATULATIONS! You are now the owner of IOTA!
STEP 5 (Optional, But Recommended): HODL TO THE MOON! Some Bonus Tips:
If you are newer to crypto, you will have the strong urge to CONSTANTLY be checking the IOTA price. Try to avoid this to maintain your sanity and productivity in your life.
Accept that there is a lot of volatility in the market and some very wide swings. You can be up 20% one day and down 20% another. The key is if you believe in IOTA longterm, to expect that this will happen, and stay focused on the longterm vision.
To help with not checking price constantly, you can download the Blockfolio app and set alerts for whenever IOTA drops above or below certain points.
People have been experiencing a lot of issues with the wallet, so it may be better to keep your IOTA in Binance until the new Wallet is released (expected by end of January).
If you do use a wallet, absolutely DO NOT use an online seed generator.
If you're concerned or unsure about how much money you want to put in, consider using a method called Dollar Cost Averaging. For example, if you wanted to put in $2,000, rather than just putting the full $2k in as a lump sum, you could put in $250 per week for the next 8 weeks, or $500 per week for 4 weeks, or whatever. This way if the price goes down, your cost basis will average down as well. Keep in mind this also reduces gains in a rising market and is meant to mitigate risk.
I've been seeing a lot of new people unsure about how to buy IOTA with USD so hope this helps! Cheers!
Hello Everyone, I apologize for the more than likely silly questions. Is there any glaring difference/benefits to holding my IOTA in binance rather than the Trinity wallet? I'm very uneducated compared to the average joe in here haha Thanks :)
Lets say i have exchanged (M)IOTA in binance and one IOTA costed me like 1.5$. Does it mean i have just exchanged 1 million IOTA tockens and paid like 1.5$ for them alltogehter and the fact that they dont mention it as MIOTA
I have been to crypto sphere for only 3-4 months now even though I knew about it since the days of piratebay around 2009. How I wished I clicked the last line, learned about it and got some bitcoin for 10c then rather than making fun of it and thinking some stupid internet money. In high school days, my friends were mining some bitcoin and I was stupid enough not to join them. Anyway, my only suggestion to all new and old crypto mates seeing some people losing millions in XRB (who have been trading for years maybe) after the Bitgrail fiasco or NEM after Coincheck or BTC after Mt Gox is definitely get a Hardware Wallet and store your coins out of exchange. I don't want to sound rude or douchey but as I learned from you guys here in reddit and other forums - it's not your money unless you have the private key for it Fortunately, I transferred 80% of my XRB to raiwallet/nanowallet (such a brilliant wallet which lets you keep your private seed) before the mandatory verification was put in place. I got the rest out as soon as I got verified in 2 days. I am now a proud owner of both Trezor and Ledger Nano S and have 5-6 of my ERC-20 tokens, Stellar, BTC, ETH in Nano and in Trezor. I feel peace going to sleep every night knowing my money is with me. I still have Cardano and IOTA in Binance which I can't wait to get it out once ADA and IOTA comes in LedgeTrezor. I am not a fan of desktop wallet and Daedalus is awful and IOTA has so many issues which I probably won't go in to now. And the last suggestion to all new crypto enthusiasts, read and learn as much as you can before FOMOed by other people and then buying at ATH and losing money and hating crypto. Crypto is here to stay and is going to change everything, so have faith in it. You might see your portfolio down by 70% as it happened to me but I HODL and now almost back to positive. I FOMOed and bought some promising coins at ATH which even today at 11K BTC Price, I am still down 50%. So, research before you invest and keep your emotions out of the way. If something is going up, it will eventually come down. If something is going up, it can also go up so no need to rush buy and feel awful afterwards. And finally, if you don't have balls and heart made out of steel, you won't last in crypto. Its not easy to HODL when you portfolio is down 70% and you still believe in it.
Is my wallet hacked ? My 1093 Iota gone missing from wallet
Hi. I tried to transfer from light wallet to binance. It has been several days. But I never see any deposit arrived in Binance. I went to check the history in wallet. I never see any hash related to the deposit address of Iota in binance. So far, I only try to make 3 transaction but none of them was successful. However, I see 42 transactions in my wallet. I think someone use my wallet. Does my wallet get hacked ? Anyway to restore my $2000 worth of Iota ? :( appreciated your soon support ?
Good morning Hodlers. I have a question about the volume of IOTA in Binance. I see that for two days the volume of IOTA / BTC has grown from 248 to 1557. This indicates: the amount of Bitcoin that is invested in IOTA or the number of transactions in a period of time?
After doing a ton of research and lurking this page for a while, I️ finally decided to dive in. Bought a total of 96 IOTA to start on Binance. I’m hearing people are having a lot of issues with the current wallet provided. Will I️ be safe to hold out til December for a more stable wallet to drop or is it risky leaving my IOTA in Binance til then? If so, what wallet should I️ look into using? I’m honestly really excited to be apart of this and I️ will gladly take any other pointers I️ should know about. Thank you
Binance Coin was in a general uptrend, before noting a retracement. On the other hand, TRON and IOTA gave significant signals regarding the direction of their future price movements. With Bitcoin attempting to breach $12,000, the good fortune of some altcoins may see a reversal, especially if BTC notes strong rejection around the 12k-mark. Moreover, Binance is also one of the exchanges with the largest liquidity for smaller digital assets and other altcoins. At the time of writing, Binance had a trading volume of $649 million in the last 24 hours and IOTA can be traded against Binance Coin (BNB), Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Tether (USDT).
